Remarks / Remarques
|
| |
AB (Randy Ferbey of Edmonton) wins Nokia Brier Final over MB (Kerry Burtnyk of Winnipeg).
It is the 19th Canadian Men's curling title for Alberta since the Brier began in 1927,
second only to Manitoba's 26 wins and first for Alberta since Kevin Martin in 1997.
It is also the third Brier win for Ferbey, but his first as Skip, since he also won as
Third for Alberta's Pat Ryan in 1988 and 1989. It is the first Brier win for Third Dave
Nedohin, Second Scott Pfeifer and Lead Marcel Rocque.
Ferbey and team-mates will now represent Canada at the 2001 Ford Worlds in Lausanne,
Switzerland, March 31 - April 8 at the Malley Sports Centre, seeking a leading 27th win
for Canada since 1959.
Ferbey's team also earned a berth into the 2001 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, December
1-9 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The nine-day attendance at the Ottawa Civic Centre is the fourth largest in Brier history,
behind only Saskatoon, SK (248,793 in 2000), Edmonton, AB (242,887 in 1999) and Calgary, AB
(223,322 in 1997). It also smashes Ottawa's 1993 attendance figure of 130,076.
